I think the article needs more discussion about what to me is the biggest advantage of EVF- the ability to see a histogram in the corner of every image as you are composing before shooting. This is a huge advantage over OVF where a histigram can only be brought up and checked after the image has been taken and then the shot has to be taken again, if the histogram has revealed an issue.

I wear prescription polarized sun glasses and I find that live view screens and EVF’s are very difficult to read when I’m wearing my sunglasses, so I very much prefer OVF’s. However I will admit that recently EVF’s are getting much better and readable.

It is still highly likely that manufacturers wanting to convert the DSLR people to mirrorless will, at some point, create a mirrorless with an OVF and an EVF. This will obsolete the current crop of mirrorless just like the DSLR without a video function was made obsolete years ago. Hopefully they won’t use this as an excuse to change the lens design again or anyone with the current crop of mirrorless will be in a bad position.

In many cases EVF’s came to save the life of prescription lenses wearers. The OVF diopter adjustment can only correct to some extent. Guys like me wearing multifocal glasses (presbyopia) surely benefit from EVF’s in spite of all discussions about their prons and cons.

I’m still not sure which type of display will be the best for me.
It may be good to add that modern SLRs with OVF and rear display with Liveview add some of the advantages mentioned in the article. Namely those that I consider the biggest advantages of EVF – focus peacking and verification of exposure
