Chasing the mist and sun after a storm, especially at sunset, I’ve found myself doing that more often than chasing any other image at any other time of day. I am also a painter so sometimes if I can’t get the photo I was visualizing I’ll paint it.

Great article which hits on every single point! I would only add that repetition is king. Take thousands of photos per year- along the way, annotate the ones you like- you can do this in Adobe Bridge by giving your favorites a 5-star rating. In doing so, figure out why you like the ones you like and why there are some that didn’t meet your 5-star criteria. This exercise will help you improve over time. Also, seek constructive criticism. 4 eyes are better than 2! You may not always want to hear it, but do listen to the expertise of qualified folks (like the author of this article!). They may give you meaningful insights and allow you to pivot into a better photographer.
