In reply to ShannonD. A used 70-200 2.8 VR II will be about $1500. It may be the best lens I've ever used. A 70-200 VR I is said to work well with crop sensors since the corners/edges aren't as good on full frame. Maybe $1100+. But there is more sample variation with the VR I.

In reply to Bob Anderson. Definitely take a look at Nikon's 35mm & 85mm Micro bundle. You're basically buying the 85mm (f/3.5) lens, and getting the 35mm f/1.8 lens for free. My D3300 came with a Sigma 70-300 Macro, and that's a good value as well (go for the APO version)

I am retired now and coming back to photography as a hobby. My last good camera was a Mamiya which I purchased in 1972. I just bought a Nikon D5300 and am interested in doing close up photography. Any suggestions for a good affordable lens for this?
